How to Prepare your Photos
Most people usually take photos of their property using a digital camera.
The standard format being Jpeg/jpg. When uploading or sending them via email
over the Internet ...the smaller the image the better.
Photos created for the Internet require far less resolution than photos created
for printout. This is because computer monitors have much lower resolutions
than printers.
Also the larger your photo image...the longer it takes for download...and
the less likely people will wait around to view your Virtual Tour.
There are in effect two sizes to a photo image.
1. The file size in bytes
2. The image size in width x height in pixels.
There are three ways to reduce the size of your images and all should ideally
be used to give you the best results for uploading or sending by email.
Image Cropping:
Using your photo editing software consider cropping or cutting away unwanted
areas of your image eg. There may be too much sky or background surrounding
the outer edge of your photo. You may want to focus in on your image.
Image Resizing:
Again using your photo software you can resize your photo ideally to approx
300pixels wide x 225pixels height???. Most software has the ability to resize
with the option for keeping the aspect ratio of the image. So try entering
the width as 300pixels and with the aspect ratio checked...it will automatically
work out the height for you.
Jpeg Compression:
Image compression lets you reduce an image's file size, without reducing
its width or height. Your photo software may have this option...but it is
unlikely it will be able to compress your images sufficiently enough. Try
the following online
jpeg compression tool. Leave the parameters 'as is' browse and open your
file image and click on 'submit image'. Right click and save the image you
are satisfied with.
You should use 'Save As' when saving your images with the above procedures.
You don't want to lose your original photo image!
If you do not have a digital camera to take pictures of your property and
use a conventional camera instead...you can scan your photos and save them
in jpg format and follow the above procedures.Your scanner is best set to
a resolution of 96dpi (dots per inch) for this purpose.
Preparing your Images for Upload
The maximum kbs per image allowed in your Gallery is 30 or approx.30,720bytes.
If you are having problems uploading your images ..it will more than likely
be each file size is too big and needs to be compressed as above.
Each photo should therefore be in jpg format and the file size no larger
than 30kbs - And the image size approx. 300pixels wide x 225pixels height.
Make sure all images are the same size as each other. Once your images are
ready...proceed to your Member Control Panel to upload your images. The gallery
also supports gif and png images for those who use these image formats but
we find Jpg format to give a more professional look.
